Everywhere you travel in Namibia, you see examples of ingenious upcycling where people have given a second life to items no longer in use.
We came across this one in eastern Namibia where a gas cylinder has been transformed into a water container, mounted on a stand with a basin below. It’s the perfect place to wash hands outside the local grocery store.
A tap on a foot pedal tilts the cylinder so that the water can flow out, collecting in the basin below and then running via a black plastic pipe to the flower bed.
This is one of the best upcycling contraptions that I've seen. The apparatus not only upcycles old items, but also makes good use of the waste water.
Many of these nifty water devices were made during the pandemic and, like this one, now remain in place for people to wash their hands.
If you have or know of one, please share your photos, we’d love to see them.
