    Sand warning sign!

    By Manni Goldbeck
    January 29, 2024

Only in Namibia! Where else in the world can you find a sign like this?

One of the oldest deserts on the planet, the Namib was millions of years in the making with the Gariep/Orange River conveying golden sand across the land, depositing it in the ocean to be carried northwards by the strong Benguela Current and blown inland by the gusting wind.

The ancient Namib Desert is a prime tourist attraction, drawing visitors from all over the globe to stand in awe at the foot of towering apricot sand dunes – and smile at caution signs they come across, like this one, warning of – SAND!
