This signpost had us flummoxed at first.
The photograph was probably taken in the 1950s and shows Dr Lemmer standing next to the signpost. Well known in the education world, Dr Cecil Joseph Cloete Lemmer (1900-1955) was a teacher and a school inspector. He was also the founding-member of the SWA Scientific Society, serving as its secretary and as its president from 1937 to 1939, and the founder and first chairman of the SWA Monuments Commission. The High School in Rehoboth still bears his name and the ‘Lemmer Collection’, a collection of his books and manuscripts on Namibian history, is housed in the National Archives of Namibia. These include the autograph of Namibian leader Hendrik Witbooi.
Where do you think the photograph was taken?
Take a guess and in a few days’ time we’ll let you know if you got it right.
Those with the correct answer stand a chance to win a night for two at Gondwana’s popular Etosha King Nehale Lodge (on a B&B basis). The winner will be selected by lucky draw.
