I came across photos of this old 1959 signpost in the archives. At what junction do you think they were taken?
In the black-and-white photo the signs to Welwitschia (now Khorixas), Burnt Mountain, the Petrified Forest and Torra Bay point in one direction, Vingerklip rock formation in the opposite direction and the White Lady (Brandberg) at a right angle to the others.
Sixty years later, the Twyfelfontein rock engravings are still a major attraction and farmers from inland still make their way to popular fishing spot Torra Bay during the end-of-the-year holidays to cast their lines and escape the heat.
