On the outskirts of Ondangwa, just west of the airport, colourful Owambo dresses catch the eye.
I stopped to talk to Victoria Shiyanga and Beath Shivute, and left with a beautiful traditional dress of my own. Both ladies make the dresses themselves on their Singer sewing machines. Beath has been a familiar face on the roadside for many years. She has sold her Owambo and patchwork Damara dresses every day in the same place since 2015, except for Sundays when she takes the day off. Her dresses waving in the branches of a tree remain a bright landmark in the North and Beath is someone we look out for whenever we pass.
