This descriptive farm name ‘Swerwersrus’ translates as ‘Wanderer’s or Drifter’s Rest’ and conveys the message that at some point in time, the owner’s nomadic existence came to an end when he happily found a place to call home.
We do not know the reason for the name, but it’s probably from the early days after the world war when a wave of farmers came in to the country from South Africa and were given land and grazing licences, gradually increasing their herds, building shelters and applying to purchase the land. Whatever the reason, both the sign and the name clearly convey rest from the long road, shelter and joy.
