Many years ago, I played a joke on my friend who was getting married. I wrote ‘HILFE’ (HELP) on the sole of his boot. When he was kneeling at the alter during the ceremony, the plea for help was clearly visible. Everyone started laughing except the padre and the couple, who weren’t in on the joke and couldn’t understand what the laughter was about. There were intermittent giggles from the guests throughout the ceremony.
My friend, of course, never forgave me, but we all had a good laugh afterwards. He later gave the boots to me as a memento. They now adorn the wall of the hikers hut at Moonraker Adventure Farm, adding to the relaxed country style and always making me smile, reminding me how important it is to have a good sense of humour in life.
