After a long drought, the first rains have finally arrived in northern Namibia. There is a flurry of activity in the fields, with friends and family working together, making the most of this important time of the year.
Some folks are hoeing the earth and sowing the mahangu seeds by hand, while others make use of oxen, donkeys and even a tractor, hired for the purpose, and saving hours of hard work.
The industrious time will reap benefits later in the year when the staple grain will be harvested, pounded, stored and enjoyed.
