In July 2009 I took this photo of Christiaan Seibeb and his colourful Namibian taxi on the C39 between Khorixas and Twyfelfontein. An entrepreneur of note, Christiaan had decorated his donkey cart with plastic scraps cut from discarded plastic and placed in spectacular multicoloured designs on his cart. His team of three white donkeys had their blinkers decorated in the same style and Christiaan wore an equally bright and striking outfit. He was often seen on the Damaraland roadside leaning against his fine carriage, smoking his pipe.

Christiaan attracted travellers, who would stop for a ride and a photograph. Over the years the cart was abandoned, and there were less and less parts visible until only a rusty shell remained. Christiaan and his unique Damaraland taxi are still fondly remembered all these years later.

(Do any of our readers know what happened to Christiaan Seibeb?)
